A sushi cake....sounds a little fishy to me!

When I was asked to make a sushi cake, I wasn't sure if I could pull it off.  It turns out it was much easier than I expected!  All I needed were some fruit roll ups, fruit snacks, cupcakes, coconut, cake, frosting, and a little creativity! :)  Here's the final product:

Think Pink!

Hey - it's the Baker! :)  Let's just say that by the time I got done with this cake my eyes hurt!  As you can see it's extremely bright and PINK!  The gal that ordered it just said to make it "pink and girly".  So that's just what I did.  I went off the invite that she gave me and here's the final result!  P.S. I think it was easier to make the cake than it was to blog about it.  Haha!

Jello Shot Birthday Cake

Here in Iowa, April really does bring plenty of showers. So on rainy days you'll usually find us applying our talents to indoor projects.  This week Photographer and I decided to experiment with Jello, more specifically we endeavored on creating a Jello Shot Birthday Cake for Baker.

You'll see we use the term "cake" loosely as this is basically 80 Jello shots stacked up in a turkey roaster that Photographer decoupaged.

We were complete novices but we were surprised at not only how easy and quick the process was (we made 5 different recipes and it took about 30 minutes total from start to finish, not including refrigeration time ofcourse) but the end result was fun and yummy!

Here is a simple recipe to follow:

      6 ounces Jello (large package)

      16 ounces Water (boiling)
        6 ounces Water (cold)
        10 ounces vodka or rum

Stir the Jello packet into the boiling water. Once powder is dissolved, pour mixture into a bowl containing the alcohol and cold water. Stir until all parts are thoroughly scrambled and pour into shot cups.  Let sit for at least 4 hours or until Jello has "set up".

Our favorite Jello shot was the Fuzzy Navel in which we used orange Jello and peach schnapps! These tasty treats were a fun edition to the party. If you are looking for a sure fire way to get your party started try using the Jello Shots in a game. ;)

Dueling Banj...er...Sanders

Photographer and Furniture Maker here, just thought we'd show you that hard work can be fun! We spent a rainy afternoon putting a little competition into our work, seeing who could sand more on an (upcoming) project. :) More to come on this one later...

The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt...

Hi, photographer here, ready to talk about my first project...code name: The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. Yep, no rhyme or reason at all to the name. :)

I found my first project by shopping around on Craig's List. I found an old crappy, beat up, & forgotten dresser that needed a lot of lovin'. The previous owner painted it with an amazing green crackle paint (which I discovered later was NOT easy to remove).

So far, I've pretty much taken it apart... Apparently, in some crazy accident, the drawer fronts must have fallen off in a past life. It was "fixed" by screwing the fronts back on to the drawers. Neat!! No worries here though, I'm removing the drawers anyway.

What once has fallen, will rise again! Stay tuned for more updates on Teddy...
